Extending a temporary residence card allows foreigners to continue residing legally in Vietnam, ensuring their rights and avoiding unwanted expiration. Below are the conditions and procedures for applying for an extension of the temporary residence card as provided by Á Đông.
A temporary residence card is an important document issued by the competent authority, allowing foreigners to reside long-term in Vietnam. When the temporary residence card is about to expire, foreigners need to carry out the extension procedure if they wish to continue staying in Vietnam.

Cases that require an extension of the temporary residence card include:
2.1. Foreign Workers
- Those coming to Vietnam for work, study, or other purposes for 30 days or more.
- The temporary residence card has a maximum validity of 2 years and can be extended multiple times.
2.2. Leaders of International and Non-Governmental Organizations
- This includes heads of representative offices or projects of international organizations and foreign non-governmental organizations in Vietnam.
2.3. Heads of Economic Units
This includes heads of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, and representative offices of economic organizations.
2.4. Family Members of Foreigners
Spouses and children under 18 years of age of foreigners holding LV1, LV2, or DT visa types will be granted a temporary residence card valid for no more than 3 years.

- The applicant's passport must be valid for at least 1 year.
- The work permit must be valid for at least 1 year from the time of applying for the extension of the temporary residence card.
- A certificate of temporary residence registration at the place of residence is required.
- A new passport is needed in case the old passport has no blank pages or is lost.
The application for extending the temporary residence card must be submitted at least 5 days before the expiration date of the current temporary residence card.
4.1. Documents for Extending Temporary Residence Cards for Workers (LĐ)
- Information declaration form (NA8).
- Notarized copy of the business registration certificate of the sponsoring company.
- Registration of the sponsorship company's seal and tax identification number (if applicable).
- NA6 form requesting the issuance of a temporary residence card.
- Notarized copy of the work permit or exemption from the work permit.
- Original passport and current temporary residence card.
- 2 passport-sized photos (2x3 cm).
4.2. Documents for Extending Temporary Residence Cards for Family Visits (TT)
- A copy of the marriage certificate or birth certificate of children under 18 years old (if applicable).
- Legalized documents.
4.3. Documents for Extending Temporary Residence Cards for Foreign Spouses
- Notarized copy of the marriage certificate and application for the temporary residence card (NA7 form).
- Original passport and temporary residence card.
- 2 portrait photos.
- Notarized copy of the Vietnamese household registration book and ID card of the Vietnamese spouse.
Step 1: Prepare Documents
Foreigners need to prepare all necessary documents and ensure their validity.
Step 2: Submit Documents
Foreigners should submit their application at one of the two offices of the Immigration Department:
- Northern Region: No. 44-46 Tran Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.
- Southern Region: No. 254 Nguyen Trai Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
The application acceptance hours are from Monday to Saturday morning, excluding public holidays.

Step 3: Receive Results
Foreigners must bring the receipt and pay the fee to receive the results. Results are available from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.
