Vietnam entry approval letter or Vietnam entry permit, is a document issued by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security, allowing the individual named in the letter to obtain a business visa and enter Vietnam for work. The entry approval letter includes information such as:

Note: The entry approval letter is not a visa. To obtain a visa for entry into Vietnam, the foreigner must bring this letter (a photocopy) to the Vietnamese representative office (Embassy/Consulate) or to the border gate to receive the visa.
Individuals who do not need an entry approval letter include:
- Foreigners holding a valid multiple-entry visa for Vietnam, temporary residence card, permanent residence card, 5-year visa exemption certificate, or valid APEC card that states Vietnam as one of the countries allowed for entry to work.
- Foreigners entering Vietnam under unilateral or bilateral visa exemption.
- Foreigners entering with a Vietnamese electronic visa (e-visa).
- Other cases that do not possess any valid entry documents for Vietnam and are not exempt from the Vietnamese visa or do not apply for an e-visa.
To apply for an entry approval letter, the following are required:
1. The sponsoring company in Vietnam must be legally established and operating in Vietnam, such as:
Foreign-invested companies
State-owned companies
100% foreign-owned companies
Representative offices of foreign traders
Vietnamese travel companies
2. Must not belong to the group of individuals prohibited from entering Vietnam (blacklist), such as:
- Individuals who falsify documents or provide false information to obtain entry, exit, or residence documents.
- Individuals suffering from mental illnesses or infectious diseases that pose a danger to public health.
- Individuals who have been expelled from Vietnam and whose expulsion decision is still in effect.
- Individuals restricted for reasons of national defense, security, order, and social safety.
Entry approval letters are classified according to:
- Purpose of entry:
- Entry approval letter for tourist visa
- Entry approval letter for business, work, or official purposes
- Entry approval letter for visiting relatives
- Location for receiving the visa:
- Entry approval letter for visa pickup at the airport
- Entry approval letter for visa pickup at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate
The validity of the entry approval letter for Vietnam is a maximum of 3 months, depending on the foreigner's work/travel schedule in Vietnam.
The entry approval letter is issued free of charge. However, the sponsoring company will have to cover the following costs:
- Costs for preparing the application documents
- Travel costs to complete the entry approval letter application procedures
After receiving the entry approval letter, the foreigner will affix the visa stamp at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate or at a Vietnamese airport. The specific costs are as follows:
- Single-entry visa: 25 USD
- Multiple-entry visa, valid for a maximum of 3 months: 50 USD
Since 2023, the procedure for applying for an entry approval letter has been conducted online through the Ministry of Public Security's public service portal. Previously, this procedure was carried out directly at the Immigration Department.

- Have an account on the national public service portal
- Have the necessary documents as required
The procedure for applying for an entry approval letter is carried out online in two basic steps:
Step 1: Register an electronic account with the Immigration Department
The enterprise needs to register an account on the national public service website.
Step 2: Submit the application for an entry approval letter online
After the electronic account has been approved by the Immigration Department, you can perform online procedures for foreigners. The steps are as follows:
1. Log in to dichvucong.bocongan.gov.vn
2. Search for the procedure: Approval of foreign personnel, then submit the application
3. Fill in the information and attach the prepared documents
4. Wait for the result
