Japan is an attractive travel destination all year round, but it is also a country that does not easily grant visas. However, don't let this affect your dream of exploring Japan.
Below is a detailed guide to help you prepare your application for a tourist visa to Japan, saving you time, effort, and money.
Passport: The passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
Visa application:
- Visa application form (template available on the website of the Japanese Embassy).
- Travel and accommodation itinerary.
- Employment verification letter (written in English) and a leave of absence request confirmed by the company you work for.
ID photo:
- Size 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm, taken within the last 6 months, with full name written on the back.
Financial proof documents:
- Bank statements for the last 3 months (if receiving salary through a bank account) or salary certificates for the last 3 months (if receiving salary in cash).
- A savings book with a value of 100 million VND or more, along with a certificate of account balance (in English).
Copy of the employment contract: It has the company's seal.
Leave application: Company confirmation included.
Accommodation schedule: Download the application form from the website of the Japanese Embassy, along with the hotel reservation confirmation and flight tickets (do not issue tickets before obtaining the visa).

Note: Do not return the submitted documents; please bring copies and original versions of important documents for verification if needed.
You can submit your application directly at the Japanese Embassy or schedule an appointment through the VFS website. It's advisable to make an appointment in advance to avoid long waiting times.
Time for receiving applications:
- From Monday to Friday (except for the embassy's holidays), in the morning from 8:30 to 11:30.
Visa processing time:
- From Monday to Friday, in the afternoon from 1:30 PM to 4:45 PM.
Japanese Embassy: You will receive the results 8 days after the application submission. If submitted at the Japanese Consulate General, the processing time for receiving results will be around 5 days.
Note the application submission location:
- People with residency from Gia Lai and Bình Định onwards should submit at the Japanese Embassy (Hanoi).
- People with residency from Đắk Lắk, Phú Yên and further south should submit their applications at the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City.

Application for a Japanese visa
At the Japanese Embassy (Hanoi):
- Single-entry visa: 610,000 VND
- Multiple-entry visa: 1,220,000 VND
- Transit visa: 140,000 VND
At the Consulate General of Japan (Ho Chi Minh City):
- Single-entry visa: 650,000 VND
- Multiple-entry visa: 1,300,000 VND
- Transit visa: 140,000 VND
Not every case requires an interview. During certain peak periods or if the application is unclear, you may be asked to interview in Japanese or English.

- Formal, modest attire.
- Respond clearly and directly.
- Prepare the content of your response in advance and practice your pronunciation well.
